Astrocade reaches 10 million monthly users with AI-assisted games

Astrocade says it has reached 10 million monthly users on a platform of short experiences made with help from artificial intelligence. The figure comes from an interview CEO Amir Sadeghian gave GamesBeat, published Wednesday, and was picked up by Kotaku.

According to Sadeghian, the monthly base went from about 5 million to 10 million in four months. Those users would play 220 million sessions a month across more than 100,000 playable experiences made by creators. He also spoke of hundreds of thousands of creators in 191 of 193 UN countries, excluding North Korea and Tuvalu. These are company figures, not an independent audit.

What the platform says it is

Astrocade treats the content as “playables,” not only as traditional games. The feed is vertical and discovery resembles a social network, but what people consume is interactive. Sadeghian compared the model more to a new kind of YouTube than to Roblox: creators are paid based on play time. The company's own monetization, he said, waits until next year. The focus now is growth, ahead of a deliberate U.S. push and an iOS app.

GamesBeat reports that the Palo Alto company raised US$56 million in May, with names including Sequoia, Sea, the Google AI Futures Fund, and Nvidia. Sadeghian founded the project in 2022 with his brother Ali Sadeghian and researcher Fei-Fei Li. The team would have a few dozen employees. Games moved from Unity to web experiences in JavaScript because the engine was too heavy for the use case and models performed better in JavaScript, according to the CEO.

The context is the same day Google and Unity opened Playground, another door for creating games from text. They are different products: Playground is a Google Labs experiment, for now for people 18 and older in the United States; Astrocade already presents a consumer base and a feed of user-generated content. Kotaku notes that part of the visible catalog includes clones and low-quality art. Sadeghian told GamesBeat the audience cares more about fun than about how the content was made. That is a company statement, not an independent measure of quality.
