The Witcher 3 hits a Steam record with 137,000 players after the remaster

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is back in the PC conversation eleven years after launch. On Sunday, October 4, 2026, CD Projekt Red’s RPG reached 137,724 concurrent players on Steam, according to SteamDB tracking cited by WN Hub and DualShockers.

The figure tops the 2015 launch peak of around 92,000 concurrent players and the previous record of about 103,000 in January 2020, when the Netflix series was at its height. Eurogamer had already logged nearly 120,000 concurrents on September 29, the day the remaster began circulating — then the ninth most-played game on Steam.

What drove the peak

The Witcher 3 remaster arrived on September 29, 2026, and is free for existing owners. The update brings visual and gameplay improvements without turning the game into something else: Eurogamer itself described the changes as less radical than some players expected. WN Hub also attributes part of the surge to a 50% discount.

The 137,724 count is Steam only. It does not include GOG, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation, Xbox or Switch 2, where the game is also sold. The weekend audience was therefore larger than Valve’s chart shows.

Why it matters

Peaks like this usually follow new releases. Here, a 2015 RPG passed its own launch record thanks to a free remaster and a sale. For CD Projekt Red, the number underlines that The Witcher 3 is still the franchise’s front door while The Witcher 4 remains in development — with no public date attached to this player-count report.

The figure can move in the coming hours, like any Steam peak. What trackers have already logged is the game’s new all-time high on the platform: 137,724 concurrent players on October 4.
