Gears of War: E-Day launches tomorrow on Xbox and PC, included in Game Pass

Gears of War: E-Day arrives on October 6, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with day-one access for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers. The official Xbox page frames Gears of War: E-Day as the Emergence Day origin story, set 14 years before the first Gears of War, with Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago facing the Locust Horde's first eruption.

What happened?

The Coalition, part of Xbox Game Studios, positions Gears of War: E-Day as a third-person cover shooter rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5. On Xbox Series, the official listing promises 4K Ultra HD, HDR and up to 60 frames per second on a compatible display. The game is also Xbox Play Anywhere: a digital purchase covers console and PC. It is listed on Steam as app 3010850.

The standard edition of Gears of War: E-Day is listed at US$69.99. The Premium Edition is US$99.99 and includes the game, up to five days of early access, the Bravo Squad Signature Weapon Pack, 1,000 Iron and five seasonal customization packs, starting with the Emergence Pack. The Premium upgrade is US$30 and requires the base game or an eligible subscription, according to the store note. Pre-orders placed before 7:59 a.m. Pacific on October 6 unlock the Exfil Dom skin and the Exfil weapon skin set.

Why it matters

Gears of War: E-Day is the first major new Gears in years and lands as a day-one Game Pass title. The campaign can be played solo, in two-player console split-screen, or online with up to four players. In multiplayer, The Coalition is introducing Horde Siege, an evolution of the co-op wave mode, plus 4v4 Versus on new maps. The announced tone is darker, with familiar enemies redesigned and new creatures added.

Online multiplayer, including campaign co-op, Horde Siege and Versus, requires a Game Pass subscription that includes online play. Two-player split-screen is console-only.

What changes in practice

Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members can start Gears of War: E-Day tomorrow without a separate purchase, including cloud on plans that include it. Premium extras still require the upgrade. Local currency prices can differ from the US dollar listing.

The official page is at xbox.com/games/gears-of-war-eday. The ESRB rating is Mature 17+ for blood, strong language and intense violence, plus in-game purchases and user interaction.
