The PS5 Pro in Japan is open for applications on the Sony Store, and the window closes at 11:59 p.m. on October 7, 2026. PlayStation's Japanese division is taking orders for the PS5 Pro with a 2 TB SSD. If orders exceed the planned number of consoles, purchase rights are decided by lottery instead of first come, first served.
The rule is on the official campaign page. The kit includes a DualSense controller, HDMI and power cables, a USB cable, and the preinstalled game Astro's Playroom. The suggested PS5 Pro price is 137,980 yen, tax included.
What happened?
Sony says it has started accepting PS5 Pro purchase applications on its official Japanese store and that both applying and completing a purchase come with conditions. The notice is explicit: if applications exceed the planned sales volume, the company will hold a PS5 Pro lottery.
To enter, players need a Sony account registered in Japan and at least 60 hours of play on that same account on PS5, PS4, or both between September 27, 2024 and 11:59 p.m. on September 27, 2026. Results start going out around October 26, in sequence.
Why it matters
The 60-hour filter works as a barrier against scalpers and accounts created only to buy the console. Eurogamer described the system as an anti-scalping measure at a time of tight supply. The outlet also reports that winners have about a week to pay; anyone who does not complete the purchase loses the slot, and the console returns to the lottery pool.
The backdrop is the fight over memory. AI data centers continue to consume DRAM chips, and outlets such as Eurogamer link that pressure to higher prices and lower availability of gaming hardware. Sony does not publish, on the campaign page, how many PS5 Pro units are reserved for this wave or how many people have already applied.
