Amanita Design announced Machinarium 2 for PC, via Steam, during the Triple-i Initiative on October 8, 2026. The sequel to the 2009 hand-drawn adventure does not have a release date yet.
In the game, Josef and Berta, reunited after escaping the city of Machinarium, crash in the barrens and find a hidden valley inhabited by two robot tribes that are slowly running short of power. One lives in the Elektrona monastery, high on the rocks; the other in the city of Oilton, below.
What changes from the original
This time the player controls both robots and can switch between them at any moment, using distinct abilities to solve puzzles neither could crack alone. The story still has no text: communication happens through animated thought bubbles, symbols, and gestures.
Controls also change. With a gamepad, Josef and Berta move directly, without a cursor; the mouse remains available for players who prefer the classic point-and-click feel. Every environment is hand-drawn, with references to old master drawings and Renaissance landscapes. The score returns to Tomas Dvorak, Floex from the first game, now with symphonic arrangements and a Renaissance touch.
Why it matters
Machinarium is one of the most recognized independent adventures of the previous generation, and the sequel arrives 17 years later, in the same showcase where other historic indies also reappeared. So far, the only confirmed platform is PC. Consoles have not been announced.
