GTA 6: IGN transcript details the criminal profile, robberies and Jason and Lucia

GTA 6 received, on October 7, 2026, the full IGN transcript of the interview with Rob Nelson, head of development and co-studio head at Rockstar North. The GTA 6 conversation took place in July while Nelson played roughly 30 minutes live. It is not a new Rockstar announcement: it is the complete account of a session the August GTA 6 preview only summarized.

What the GTA 6 transcript adds

According to IGN, as reported by outlets including Inven Global, one GTA 6 system that had not been fully detailed is the Criminal Profile. Nelson described it as different from Red Dead Redemption 2's honor system and separate from the relationship between Jason and Lucia. Consistent actions can change how the world reacts and how the story plays out, but doing what a mission requires, or answering someone who starts a fight, does not count against the player.

He also said that in GTA 6 the player is no longer the only loose threat on the map. In earlier GTA games, aside from the police, people fled if the protagonist caused trouble. Nelson said the GTA 6 world does not work that way.

Jason, Lucia and robberies

The couple's relationship rises when they spend time together, whether that is mini golf, kayaking or robberies. Players can call or text at any time, and ignoring a goodnight message may affect the bond a little. Nelson said the story keeps them as partners in crime for most of GTA 6 even if the romance cools, and that there is no mandatory gameplay benefit to keeping them close. How the relationship is treated still shapes the ending.

Robberies are central to the loop between missions and can be done solo or as a pair. Nelson said players can rob pretty much anything, citing even a headphone shop. In one example, the explosive used on a safe damaged part of the take.

Cars, police and daily life

One-button hotwiring is gone. Some vehicles stay locked until the player gets tools such as a key cloner or a slim-jim, although carjacking a driver is always available. A phone scanner shows whether a car has an alarm or tracker, what it would fetch at a fence and what it would cost to register. Cars with an advanced tracker ping the police if they are not driven fast.

A crime is reported only if someone sees it or an alarm goes off. A new heat system means officers remember the player's clothes: changing outfits reduces heat, as does splitting Jason and Lucia up or switching cars. The personal vehicle, callable at any time, stores bought outfits and weapons. A Focus mode, compared to RDR2's Eagle Eye, highlights nearby cops.

Safehouses are closer to RDR2 camps than to older GTA homes. Hair can only be cut shorter at a hideout; new styles are at salons. Gyms build strength and overeating adds weight. Snapmatic returns as a social app Jason and Lucia can only browse, because they are on the run. Ryde Me, the ride app, also works as fast travel. Money matters more: parts of the story require cash before they can move forward.

What this is not

Nelson said the team avoided memes and very dated political topics because development cycles are long, and that the scale of GTA 6 helps explain why Rockstar's team doubled. IGN puts development at 13 years. None of this changes an official release date: the transcript is not a new publisher announcement.
