Sapphire has published a firmware updater for nearly its entire Radeon RX 7000 lineup. The package, reported by IT Home on October 5, 2026, covers the RX 7900 XTX, 7900 XT, 7900 GRE, 7800 XT, 7700 XT, 7650 GRE, 7600 XT and 7600 — every RX 7000 card listed on the maker's site. Sapphire does not sell an RX 7400.
What the update does
The official description is short. The company says only that the firmware includes “security improvements identified in cooperation with AMD.” There is no CVE number, technical note or explanation of changes to performance, compatibility or power draw. Japanese site Niche PC Gamer also logged the release and confirmed that the exact contents of the patch were not detailed.
In practice this is a vBIOS update, the firmware stored on the card itself, not a regular AMD driver. Owners of RX 7000 cards from other brands should not use Sapphire's installer: the package is specific to the models listed by the manufacturer. Flashing a graphics card always carries a brick risk if the file is for the wrong model, the install is interrupted, or the tool is used on an unsupported revision.
Why it matters
The RDNA 3 generation is still common in gaming PCs. Steam's September hardware survey, already covered on Geekiki, put the RTX 5070 as the most frequent GPU, but Radeon RX 7000 cards remain in machines bought in the previous cycle. A security patch without a public CVE leaves owners in the dark: it is not clear whether the issue is remotely exploitable, needs physical access, or is only a preventive hardening.
Until Sapphire or AMD publish more detail, the update is best treated as security maintenance, not a performance gain. The official download is on Sapphire China's drivers page. Check the exact card model before running the installer.
