The Crunchyroll Hub PS5 arrives on the console home screen in spring 2027. Hideaki Nishino, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, announced the space at the Crunchyroll Anime Future Forum. The Crunchyroll Hub PS5 is meant to gather anime, anime-inspired games and access to the Crunchyroll app in one place on the menu.
What happened?
PS5 has had the Crunchyroll app since the console launched in 2020. The hub does not replace that app. According to the release cited by Gematsu and IGN, the new destination sits inside the home-screen experience and is meant to make series and related games easier to find. Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini tied the announcement to Crunchyroll membership on PlayStation and to the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime series, which has no firm premiere date in this release.
Sony bought Crunchyroll in 2021 in a deal reported at about US$1.2 billion. The hub is separate from Crunchyroll Storyworks, the division created to adapt stories into anime and live action. Here the focus is the console interface, not a new studio.
Why it matters
The PS5 installed base passed 92 million units earlier in 2026, a figure IGN cited from earlier Sony data. Putting anime on the home screen treats the Crunchyroll catalog as part of the console, not only as another app in the library. For people who reach a series through a game, or a game through a series, the Crunchyroll Hub PS5 shortens the path between the two.
What changes in practice
Nothing changes on PS5 today. The Crunchyroll Hub PS5 launch is set for spring 2027, with no exact day and no interface images in the announcement. There is also no confirmation that the hub reaches every region on the same day, or which adapted games will appear in the showcase. Until then, the path remains the Crunchyroll app already available on the console.
