Yuji Horii AI: Dragon Quest creator releases free mystery game in 30 minutes

Yuji Horii AI experimented with generation tools and released a free mystery game called 取調室の小宮 (Komiya in the Interrogation Room). The legendary designer behind Dragon Quest and the 1983 classic The Portopia Serial Murder Case said the project was made in about 30 minutes using generative AI.

What is the Yuji Horii AI game?

In the title, the player takes the role of a police officer interrogating Komiya, a 72-year-old former locksmith suspected of a pawnshop safe robbery. Because the suspect lies, the goal is to confront conflicting statements with evidence. There are “Agitation” and “Resistance” meters: if resistance hits 100, he falls silent.

Yuji Horii shared the link on X and reflected on the era when he made Portopia alone. Now, with AI, “even without knowing how to draw or program, you can instruct the AI and create a decent game by yourself.”

Why the Yuji Horii AI experiment matters

One of Japan’s most influential creators testing generative AI tools to produce a playable adventure in half an hour shows how far these tools already allow rapid prototyping. The game is free in the browser via a Claude artifact. Sources: Famitsu, Yuji Horii’s X post and Inven Global.
