WePlay Expo Japan was announced on October 8: the games fair held in Shanghai since 2017 will have its first edition in the country. San-Ei Corporation and IID set WePlay Expo JAPAN 2027 for April 2–4, 2027, in halls 5 and 6 of Makuhari Messe in Chiba.
What happened?
April 2 will be a business day. April 3 and 4 will be open to the public. Business and general tickets will be paid; hours, prices and the on-sale date have not been announced. The news was detailed by AUTOMATON and Gematsu, based on the organizers' release.
The executive committee is formed by the two Japanese companies. The China indie Game Alliance (CiGA), one of the organizers of WePlay Expo in China, joins as licensor and producer. The English site is weplayexpo.jp.
Why it matters
WePlay Expo grew as a meeting point for playable demos, indies and international pavilions. AUTOMATON notes that the 2025 Shanghai edition gathered about 500 titles from 13 countries and regions, with national pavilions from Poland, Canada and New Zealand. Bringing WePlay Expo Japan to Makuhari links that Chinese circuit to Asia's largest console market. In Japan, Famitsu already put Ace Combat 8 at the top of the week's physical sales.
The event site lists planned areas for AAA, indie, PC, console and mobile demos, plus PCs, monitors and peripherals, merchandise, stages with announcements and tournaments, and creator-fan meetups. Organizers also say they will work with Japanese and Chinese media, in cooperation with CiGA, before opening day.
What is not confirmed
There is no game, studio or price list yet. Treating the show as a locked slate of major releases would be speculation. The firm facts right now are the dates, the venue and the model of one business day followed by two public days.
