Skydance has completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery and, the following day, spelled out what that means for games. Paramount Games and WB Games will operate as one unit, led by Tony Driscoll, president of Paramount Games Studio.
The reported price is not identical across outlets. GamesIndustry.biz and GameSpot cite $111 billion; VGC reports about $110 billion. All three agree on the studio structure and on Driscoll's leadership.
What changes in practice
According to a memo from Skydance president Andy Gordon, obtained by Variety and reported by GamesIndustry.biz, games, experiences, consumer products and publishing sit alongside TV, film and streaming as growth engines. Driscoll adds games and experiences to his corporate strategy and development role.
On the Warner Bros. Games side, VGC lists internal studios including Avalanche Software (Hogwarts Legacy), NetherRealm Studios (Mortal Kombat), Rocksteady Studios (Batman), TT Games (Lego) and the Montreal and Boston teams. Paramount Games Studio, formed this summer, brings projects such as TMNT: The Last Ronin and Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, plus IPs such as SpongeBob and Star Trek. Skydance's own slate is included, among it Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra.
In a statement carried by VGC, Driscoll described the team as stewards of worlds from Batman to SpongeBob and said his priority in the coming weeks is to meet staff from Los Angeles to London and Montreal to Tokyo.
What is not confirmed
Skydance CEO David Ellison said in the initial announcement that the combination will require difficult decisions, including changes and impacts. Neither GamesIndustry.biz nor VGC details cuts, cancellations or a title-by-title publishing plan. The merger puts IPs such as Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Batman, Mortal Kombat and The Lord of the Rings under one roof, but there is no official announcement yet of a new game born from the combination.
