The Trails series has passed 10 million copies sold worldwide, Nihon Falcom said on October 7, 2026. The milestone comes shortly after the global release of Trails in the Sky the 2nd on September 17, while Trails in the Sky the 1st is still selling well outside Japan.
What happened?
Falcom confirmed that the Kiseki franchise, known in the West as Trails, crossed 10 million copies. In 2024 the company had reported 8 million. Roughly 2 million copies were added in two years, led by the full remakes of the first two The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky games.
Trails in the Sky the 1st launched in September 2025. The follow-up, the 2nd, arrived on September 17, 2026, less than a year later. AUTOMATON, reporting the announcement, notes that both versions remain steady sellers and that Kyoto Xanadu, released in July in Japan and Asia, also contributed.
Why it matters
Trails is one of the longest-running active JRPG sagas. It began in 2004 on Japanese PC with Sora no Kiseki FC and now spans several arcs, from Liberl to Calvard. Ten million does not put it next to Final Fantasy or Pokémon, but it shows Western players finally caught up at a meaningful scale, something Falcom chased for years with localizations and ports.
In the same report, the company said revenue, operating profit, ordinary profit and net profit should beat the initial forecast and set a historical record. AUTOMATON frames this as an upward revision after the global performance of the remakes. Exact yen figures belong to the results PDF; the confirmed fact is the revision and the record outlook.
What changes in practice
For new players, Trails in the Sky the 1st is the current on-ramp: it retells Estelle and Joshua, bracers of Liberl, with modern visuals and systems. The 2nd continues that story. The series is continuous, so starting with the remake avoids jumping into the middle of an arc.
- Official mark: more than 10 million Trails copies.
- Previous base: 8 million reported in 2024.
- Recent drivers: Trails in the Sky the 1st and the 2nd, plus Kyoto Xanadu in Japan and Asia.
- Company: Nihon Falcom expects a record fiscal result.
