The otaku vampire Hina is moving from manga to TV: Oshi ni Amagami, known in English as Otaku Vampire's Love Bite, is getting a television anime adaptation. The announcement came from ShoPro Entertainment on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, with a teaser visual, a teaser video and the launch of the anime's official website.
The date was no accident: in Japanese, 11/04 can be read as “ii oshi”, roughly “good favorite” — a wordplay on oshi, the word fans use for a favorite character or idol, which is exactly the heart of the story.
What has been confirmed
The project was announced as a TV anime, with the first teaser visual and a teaser video already released. The video uses art from Julietta Suzuki's original manga instead of showing finished animation. The visual shows Hina smiling inside a coffin surrounded by merchandise of her favorite character, with a blood bag nearby — a detail that sums up the character: although she is a vampire, Hina finds drinking blood directly from humans unhygienic and prefers blood bags.
The animation studio, main staff, voice cast, premiere date, broadcast season and streaming platforms have not been announced yet. VIZ Media, which publishes the manga in English, confirmed that more details — production staff, cast and premiere — will be announced in the coming months.
The story
Hina is a vampire who spent 30 years as a shut-in. To live the otaku life for real, she moves to Japan to be closer to her favorite character, Mao, from the fictional series Vampire Cross. There she meets her neighbor Kyuta Amanatsu, a boy who looks just like Mao — and whose blood is special, irresistible to vampires everywhere. When other vampires start going after Kyuta, the two's relationship takes an unexpected turn. It is a bloody romantic comedy about a 100% otaku vampire and a handsome, slightly sharp-tongued boy.
The original manga
Oshi ni Amagami is written and illustrated by Julietta Suzuki, creator of Kamisama Kiss, which ran in Hana to Yume from 2008 to 2016, with 25 volumes, two anime seasons and four OADs. The series began as a one-shot in April 2022 and started serialization in Hakusensha's Hana to Yume magazine in November 2022. Volume 10 was released in Japan on July 17, 2026, and volume 11 arrives on November 20, 2026. In English, VIZ Media publishes the work under the Shojo Beat imprint; volume 9 comes out on December 1, 2026.
