What happened?
OpenAI and Google Cloud announced on October 21, 2026 the availability of OpenAI frontier models on Google Cloud. The partnership brings GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol, GPT-6 Luna and Codex agentic workflows to Google Cloud’s Model Garden.
The integration enables native access for complex agentic workloads, backed by Google Cloud’s data governance and high-performance infrastructure.
Why it matters
Customers can purchase via Model Garden and Google Cloud Marketplace, drawing down existing GCP commitments. Soon the models will be in Google Antigravity and the Gemini Agent. This reduces lock-in and expands options in a multi-cloud landscape after Azure and AWS.
Greg Brockman (OpenAI): “This partnership is an important step in making our most capable models and Codex available where customers are already building.” Thomas Kurian (Google Cloud) highlighted broad model selection for quality-cost balance.
Private preview is already running for select enterprise customers; general availability in the coming weeks. Microsoft remains the primary partner.
