CONFIRMED: OpenAI and NASK, Poland's National Research Institute, have signed an agreement to explore collaboration on artificial intelligence safety, security and technical research. The announcement was made on 23 October 2026.
Under the agreement, NASK's AI Safety Research Center — which serves as Poland's Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute — will work with OpenAI on evaluating increasingly capable systems, identifying potential vulnerabilities and strengthening safeguards. OpenAI also cites its work with the US CAISSI centre and the UK AI Security Institute.
There is a concrete precedent behind the announcement: in July 2026, CERT Polska, which operates within NASK, used OpenAI cyber-capable models through the Daybreak programme and helped discover six vulnerabilities in MikroTik RouterOS — some combinable to take over devices without authentication. According to OpenAI, the vendor released fixes, and CERT Polska confirmed they blocked the attacks observed.
What the announcement does not contain matters as much as what it does: there are no named projects, budget, timeline, public targets or model-access terms. For now, it is an agreement to explore collaboration — not a defined programme. OpenAI links the partnership to a call for international technical standards for frontier AI, with common methods for evaluation, risk assessment, safeguard testing and incident reporting.
