OnePlus 16 launches today in China with 185Hz display, Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and 200MP camera

The OnePlus 16 officially launches today, October 12, 2026, in China, marking the brand's new flagship focused on extreme performance and mobile gaming experience. The device arrives with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, a display of up to 185Hz and a camera system led by a 200-megapixel main sensor.

What happened?

OnePlus confirmed the launch of the OnePlus 16 for 7 PM Beijing time (8 AM Brasília time) exclusively in the Chinese market. The event highlights the device's gaming capabilities, which include native support for 185 fps in titles such as Arena Breakout, Peace Elite and Naruto Mobile. The screen, developed with BOE on a fourth-generation Oriental panel with X4 material, runs at 165Hz for everyday use and rises to 185Hz in compatible games, with symmetrical bezels of only 1.15 mm.

The chipset is the Extreme version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, which includes Matrix Cores in the GPU for better graphics performance. There are also dedicated chips for touch response and Wi-Fi connectivity, plus a custom P4 display processor with Ultra-Dynamic Clarity technology. The battery is 9,000 mAh (Glacier Battery), with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. Memory configurations go up to 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1 TB UFS 4.1 storage. The operating system is ColorOS 17 based on Android 17.

Why does this matter?

The OnePlus 16 reinforces the brand's strategy of concentrating on the Chinese market after withdrawing from markets such as Europe and the United States. With a focus on high-level gaming, high refresh rate and large-capacity battery, the device aims to compete with the main local flagships in sustained performance and visual experience. The 200MP camera (1/1.4-inch sensor with OIS), accompanied by a 50MP ultrawide and 50MP periscope telephoto (Sony IMX882 with 3x), raises the level of photo and video capture in a performance-oriented device.

For the geek and mobile audience, it represents the continuation of the evolution of Chinese smartphones that prioritize extreme screen and battery specifications, especially relevant for competitive mobile games and intensive local AI use.

What changes in practice?

Users in China will have access to a device capable of running games at 185Hz/185fps in a sustained manner thanks to the combination of chipset, screen and dedicated cooling/chips. The 9,000 mAh battery promises superior autonomy for long gaming sessions and mixed use. Internationally, the launch is restricted; availability is expected in markets such as India in November, but there are no official plans for the West. Announced colors include Dark Forest (black), Mars Masterpiece (orange) and Tomorrow’s Starlight (gray with interstellar lighting effects on the rear panel).

The official price has not yet been announced, but leaks point to values starting from around 4,999 yuan for entry configurations.
