Once Upon a Katamari arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 8, 2026, with exclusive mouse controls, a steadier frame rate and enhanced graphics. Bandai Namco also released the Rolling LIVE Highlights DLC the same day, sold separately on every platform where the game already exists.
What happened?
The official announcement from Bandai Namco Entertainment America puts Once Upon a Katamari on Switch 2 alongside a pack inspired by the mobile game Katamari Damacy Rolling LIVE. The DLC brings 10 quests and those stages' soundtracks, in which the King of All Cosmos tries to keep up with Earth's livestream trends. The store listing also describes six new cousins and costume items tied to that pack, inside the Royal Sound Edition.
Once Upon a Katamari was already on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Nintendo Switch. The Switch 2 version is not a new game: it is the same ball-rolling trip through time, now with a free update that uses the Joy-Con 2 mouse. The official page is bandainamcoent.com/games/once-upon-a-katamari.
Why it matters
Katamari Damacy, from 2004, became a reference for absurd play and soundtrack. Once Upon a Katamari is the series' recent console and PC follow-up. Shipping it on Switch 2 in the same week as the Japanese storefront drop, rather than months later, shows Bandai treating the new console as a launch platform, not only a late port.
The Joy-Con 2 mouse is the practical hook. Bandai says the version delivers a new rolling feel exclusive to that hardware, plus steadier frames and improved graphics.
What changes in practice
- Once Upon a Katamari can already be bought on the Switch 2 eShop.
- Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, frame rate and improved graphics come with the Switch 2 version, at no extra cost beyond the game.
- Rolling LIVE Highlights is a separate DLC and also reaches PS5, Xbox, Steam and the original Switch.
- The highlights pack includes 10 quests and those stages' music, according to Bandai's statement.
