ModCraft raises tens of millions RMB seed for AI game Mods platform

Chinese startup ModCraft, an AI-powered platform for creating and discovering game Mods, has completed a seed round of tens of millions of RMB, according to an exclusive 36Kr report published on October 12, 2026. ModCraft lets users create Mods with natural language.

What is ModCraft?

The platform allows users to create game Mods using natural language via AI, as well as discover, play, and share Mods made by others. ModCraft currently supports 28 well-known Steam games, including the Chinese indie The Scroll of Taiwu, Light and Shadow: Expedition 33 (TGA 2025 winner), and the co-op hit PEAK.

Founder Li Shuo, a industry veteran with experience at Tencent and Youzu, sees Mods as an interface between games and the outside world. Through them, developers can customize tools and AI can access game environments for model training.

Why it matters

The company plans to use data from Mod creation, feedback, and gameplay to train AI models that better understand game design and what makes a game fun. ModCraft already cooperates with model makers like ByteDance. The long-term goal is to become a tool for independent designers and help quality Chinese games reach the global market.
