Mojang opened pre-orders for Minecraft Switch 2, with launch set for October 27, 2026. The announcement is on the official game site, written by Silva Kuusniemi, and details the upgrade path for people who already own the digital Switch version.
Through the end of January 2027, owners of digital Minecraft for Nintendo Switch can pre-order the Switch 2 Standard Edition for free in most territories, only through the Nintendo eShop. The offer is limited. In Japan and Taiwan the upgrade is not free: Mojang's note lists 100 yen and 30 Taiwan dollars, respectively. Players can also move up to the Deluxe Collection or Ultimate Collection at a discount.
What each version includes
Every edition includes the Super Mario Mash-Up pack with Vibrant Visuals. Deluxe adds the Celebration Food, Rescue Dogs, and Plenty O'Blocks add-ons, three exclusive Character Creator items, and 700 Minecoins. Ultimate includes those three packs plus Decocraft and Weapons + Tools, five exclusive items, and 1,000 Minecoins. A physical retail version is also available.
Mojang warns that Vibrant Visuals do not appear in some modes, including split-screen and certain Marketplace worlds and content. Included Minecoins and any Minecoins bought in Minecraft on a Nintendo device can only be used inside the Nintendo ecosystem.
The October 27 launch was already on the calendar. What the October 7 note adds is open pre-orders for Minecraft Switch 2, the free-upgrade rule through January, and the price exceptions in Japan and Taiwan.
