Haunted Chocolatier action RPG is the description given by Eric Barone (ConcernedApe) himself, Stardew Valley creator, for his next game in a recent GQ interview. The title will focus more on action and exploration than traditional farming.
What happened?
In an interview with GQ, Barone explained that Haunted Chocolatier remains a "town game," but with greater emphasis on adventuring, equipment, power, and combat. "It's more of an action RPG — the main focus is more about adventuring, finding equipment and getting more powerful. There are monsters, there are boss fights. It's for the people in Stardew Valley that go into the mines. That's what I do, honestly," the developer said about the Haunted Chocolatier action RPG.
The game puts the player as a chocolatier in a haunted castle, collecting ingredients to produce chocolates and run a shop, but with more metaphysical and combat elements than the cozy farming of Stardew Valley.
Why does this matter?
Haunted Chocolatier was announced in 2021 and has been eagerly awaited by Stardew Valley fans for years. The solo developer has interrupted work on the new title to update Stardew Valley, but recent statements give a clearer idea of the direction of the Haunted Chocolatier action RPG. There is no announced release date, and Barone says he will only show the game when it is ready.
What changes in practice?
Players who enjoyed the mines and combat sections in Stardew Valley should feel more at home with the Haunted Chocolatier action RPG. The game retains the pixel art style and the idea of settling into a new town, but with more focus on action RPG, loot, and battles. It is still single-player and developed for PC only at the moment.
