On October 7, 2026, OpenAI began bringing GPT-6 to ChatGPT with a feature called Intelligent UI. The company says the model can answer with text, graphics, buttons, forms, charts and interactive experiences inside the same conversation, rather than only a block of text.
Last month, the first GPT-6 models were limited to paying customers. OpenAI now says it is preparing that generation for the more than 1.2 billion people who use ChatGPT each week. The rollout starts today, in the Chat tab, for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise. Starting tomorrow, it expands to Free and Go. Enterprise availability depends on admin settings.
Sol for paid plans, Luna for free
According to the announcement, GPT-6 in ChatGPT uses GPT-6 Sol on Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise, and GPT-6 Luna on Free and Go. Both are tuned for everyday conversation. The update applies to the Chat experience; the models behind Work and Codex do not change in this release.
Intelligent UI relies on a library of native components and a compiler that builds the interface while the model is still generating the reply. OpenAI says it trained GPT-6 to decide layout, visuals and interaction, and to prefer plain text when that is more useful. Cited examples include explorable diagrams, calculators, bill splitters and even a game created inside the conversation.
Partial answers and faster search
GPT-6 can also start answering while it continues to reason. In an internal evaluation of everyday agentic tasks, OpenAI says GPT-6 Extra High begins answering in the same time as GPT-5.6 Medium and scores better overall than GPT-5.6 Extra High. On questions that need web search, GPT-6 Instant would start answering 44% sooner, on average, than GPT-5.6 Instant. Those figures come from the company's internal tests, not an independent public benchmark.
On safety, OpenAI says GPT-6 builds on Astra advances to better resist attempts to bypass safety training, especially attacks that adapt across multiple turns. It also says it strengthened protections against high-risk misuse involving cyberattacks, biological threats and violence, and points to the October system card for the review.
The Verge described the same package as a change in which diagrams, charts, forms and buttons appear inside the reply. What is not yet clear is how much of Intelligent UI actually reaches the free tier when Luna arrives tomorrow.
