Gods With Badges: Strange Scaffold Announces Narrative Tactics Game About Police Power and Switchable Bodycam

Independent studio Strange Scaffold announced Gods With Badges, a narrative tactics game for PC that puts the player in the role of a disgraced police officer and explores the dynamics of power, institutional pressures and the consequences of decisions in a dystopian city.

What happened?

Revealed at the Triple-i Initiative on October 8, 2026, the game arrives on Steam in 2027. The player controls Harrow McClellan, an officer transferred back to her original post after a scandal that became law-enforcement legend. Every dialogue and turn-based encounter is a choice between leaning into that reputation or trying to rise above it.

Gameplay mixes patrols in the open hubs of the city of Scarhelm (investigations, seizing contraband, gathering evidence) with isometric turn-based combat. A key feature is the bodycam: the player can temporarily disable it to unlock new tactical and dialogue options, but loses the public record of what happens next. The project revives materials from Hard Justice, a cancelled title from Artificer, reinterpreted by Strange Scaffold. More details on the Steam page.

Why does this matter?

Strange Scaffold (responsible for El Paso, Elsewhere and I Am Your Beast) brings a dense narrative approach to authority, qualified immunity and morality in law-enforcement systems. The bodycam mechanic turns ethical choices into concrete game systems at a time when indie games are exploring institutional themes with greater depth.

What changes in practice?

Tactics and narrative players gain a title that combines turn-based combat with dialogue and investigation consequences. The release is scheduled for 2027 on PC via Steam only; wishlist is already available. The noir soundtrack is by Kris Kirk.
