The Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime is no longer coming in 2027. At its New York Comic Con 2026 panel, Crunchyroll said Ghost of Tsushima: Legends will premiere in 2028 and revealed two new cast members plus part of the music and sound team.
The update was confirmed by Anime News Network, Crunchyroll and Gematsu. The Japanese title is Ghost of Tsushima: Kuroudo Kitan.
What changed
The series had been announced for an exclusive Crunchyroll debut in 2027. The new window is 2028, with no month or day set. Mayumi Sako — also spelled Saco in some coverage — and Shinya Fukumatsu join in undisclosed roles. Sako voiced Tomoe in the original game, the archer who studied under Sensei Ishikawa. Fukumatsu is known as Bomb in One-Punch Man.
Takanobu Mizuno still directs at Kamikaze Douga, the studio behind the Star Wars: Visions short The Duel. Gen Urobuchi handles story composition and co-writes the script with Renji Oki; ANN also lists Satoshi Maejima on the script. Takashi Okazaki is the character designer.
New staff
- Keiji Inai on music
- Yoshikazu Iwanami as sound director
- Yasumasa Koyama on sound effects
- Gyousyou Suzuki on the calligraphy for Kuroudo Kitan
HAYATE produces the series with Aniplex and PlayStation Productions. Sony Music is the soundtrack partner. Crunchyroll remains the exclusive streamer. The update came on Thursday, October 8, at the platform's NYCC panel.
Why it matters
Ghost of Tsushima, from Sucker Punch, launched on PlayStation 4 in July 2020, received a PS5 remaster in 2021 and came to Windows in 2024. The anime adapts the co-op Legends mode, not Jin Sakai's solo campaign. The one-year delay does not change the studio or the distributor, but it pushes the premiere past the window Crunchyroll had previously promised. An exact date, episode count and the roles for Sako and Fukumatsu are still unconfirmed.
