The Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime is no longer arriving in 2027. At Crunchyroll's showcase during New York Comic Con 2026 on October 8, the series received a first look via a work-in-progress trailer, new cast names, and a revised window: a premiere in 2028.
The change matters because the project had previously been presented with an exclusive Crunchyroll debut in 2027. Coverage of the panel, compiled by Animation Magazine, says production is now handled by HAYATE in collaboration with PlayStation Productions. Earlier reports, including from Anime Expo, linked the animation to studio Kamikaze Douga. Crunchyroll did not detail, in the cited coverage, why the series was delayed or whether a studio change explains the slip.
What was shown
The trailer screened at the event was described as work-in-progress. The series adapts the multiplayer mode of Ghost of Tsushima, the action game from Sucker Punch and Sony Interactive Entertainment released in 2020 on PlayStation 4, with a PS5 version in 2021 and a Windows version in 2024. Legends launched in October 2020.
The announced cast includes Mayumi Sako and Shinya Fukumatsu. Animation Magazine spelled the first name as “Mayumi Saco”; Anime News Network recorded Sako. Roles have not been detailed in the coverage consulted.
Staff
Direction remains with Takanobu Mizuno. Series composition and script are by Gen Urobuchi (Nitroplus), with Satoshi Maejima, also of Nitroplus, as scriptwriter. Character design is by Takashi Okazaki. Music is by Keiji Inai, and sound direction is by Yoshikazu Iwanami.
The announcement lands in the same cycle in which Sony set up Crunchyroll Storyworks and in which HAYATE is appearing as a hub for adaptations, including webtoons. Ghost of Tsushima Legends is a separate case: it adapts a PlayStation game, not a Korean comic, but it now shares the production umbrella cited on the panel.
