What happened?
NVIDIA officially announced that DLSS 5 Hogwarts Legacy with 3D-Guided Neural Rendering is coming on November 5, 2026. The update, developed in partnership with Avalanche Software, brings Neural Rendering that uses AI to generate more realistic lighting and material details, elevating the visual quality of the open-world RPG set in the wizarding world.
At the same time, the company released a DLSS 5 AI model that is twice as fast. The October model shrinks the size by 24% (to roughly 118 million parameters) and cuts 4K VRAM usage by 20%, resulting in half the GPU overhead of the September version while maintaining comparable visual fidelity.
Support will be available for GeForce RTX 50 Series cards, GeForce NOW and RTX Spark laptops. Hogwarts Legacy already had DLSS Multi Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction; the new update also upgrades those technologies to their latest versions. Avalanche used the DLSS 5 SDK controls to tune intensity and preserve the game’s original artistic style — character face changes are much more subtle than in the early March demos.
The faster model debuts first in NBA 2K27 on October 16 and becomes the default for future DLSS 5 games. Where Winds Meet will receive the feature in late November, and RTX Remix gains support on October 23.
Why is this important?
DLSS 5 represents the evolution of NVIDIA’s upscaling and frame generation into AI-driven visual detail generation. Instead of only reconstructing pixels or generating extra frames, Neural Rendering fills in lighting and material gaps that traditional real-time rendering cannot handle at high quality. This enables more immersive graphics without requiring even more expensive hardware.
The overhead reduction is crucial: a lighter model means more players with RTX 50 and RTX Spark can enable the feature at high resolutions with real performance gains (NVIDIA cites up to 1.4x frames in NBA 2K27). Developer artistic control also addresses earlier criticism about exaggerated character changes.
What changes in practice?
Hogwarts Legacy players with compatible hardware will see improvements in lighting, materials, shadows and environmental details starting November 5, while keeping the game’s familiar look. Those with RTX 50 or RTX Spark can already try the faster model in NBA 2K27 from October 16. Classic game modders get the tool in RTX Remix on October 23.
NVIDIA continues expanding DLSS to over a thousand titles and apps, focusing on performance and quality via local and cloud AI.
