Disney Epic Mickey Rebrushed Switch 2 arrives this Tuesday, October 6, 2026. The remake of the 2010 game, developed by Purple Lamp and published by THQ Nordic with Disney Games, has been on Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and PC since September 24, 2024. The Switch 2 version is the day's new release: higher resolution, a 60 frames-per-second target and mouse control with Joy-Con 2.
What happened?
THQ Nordic confirmed, in an official FAQ reported by Nintendo Life, that anyone who already owns Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed on the original Switch gets the Switch 2 upgrade for free, on both digital and physical copies. The path is to insert the cartridge into a Switch 2 or download the digital version, install the game and apply the upgrade patch. Switch saves can also be transferred.
A new Switch 2 purchase includes the Costume Pack, three Mickey outfits. On the free upgrade path, that DLC only appears if it was already bought on Switch. A PS4Blog review published the day before launch lists a US$39.99 price and describes the pack as included with a new purchase. The physical copy, according to the same FAQ, ships as a Game-Key Card, not a full cartridge.
Gematsu lists the game among this week's Japanese and worldwide releases, alongside titles such as Gears of War: E-Day and Star Wars: Galactic Racer.
Why it matters
Epic Mickey is one of the few Disney games in which the player steers the world with a magic brush. Paint restores forgotten scenery and characters in Wasteland; thinner erases and opens shortcuts. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Yen Sid and Pete return in that realm of discarded classics. On Switch 2, the pitch gains smoothness and an extra control method: the Joy-Con 2 mouse aims the brush more precisely.
The free upgrade also sits inside the debate over how Nintendo-generation owners are treated. Not every Switch 2 port is free. Here THQ Nordic chose not to charge again people who already bought the game in 2024.
What changes in practice?
- Worldwide Switch 2 launch on October 6, 2026.
- Free upgrade for digital and physical Switch owners.
- 60 fps target and higher resolution, according to a launch review.
- Joy-Con 2 mouse and Costume Pack on a new purchase.
- Physical release as a Game-Key Card, not a full cartridge.
The game remains the 2024 remake: dash, ground pound and sprint added to the paint-and-thinner brush, stages inspired by classic shorts and collectible pins. THQ Nordic's official page describes Mickey's journey through Wasteland after magic ink pulls him into the realm of forgotten characters.
