Destiny 2: vaulted content restoration should only finish in early 2028, Bungie says

Bungie detailed on October 29, 2026, its plan to restore vaulted Destiny 2 content, in an update that follows the article published by Geekiki on September 21 about that material's return. The new information is the schedule: pre-production should run until January or February 2027, full production should take about 12 months, and so completion of the initial project is only expected in early 2028. Bungie has not announced a release date.

What returns in the first phase

In the first phase, the Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind and Forsaken campaigns return, along with strikes, raids and raid lairs from those expansions and the Menagerie activity, with reprised rewards. According to the update, all content in this initial phase is planned to be available to every Destiny 2 player.

Stretch goals and what stays out

As stretch goals, to be delivered at launch or later, Bungie is studying free-roam destinations, seasonal activities from Sundial (Season 9) to The Coil (Season 23), reprised raid weapons and PvP maps. On the other hand, there is no identified path, for technical or strategic reasons, for an updated New Light experience, seasonal story missions, the Kell's Grave Gambit map and seasonal hubs such as the Eliksni Quarter.

Head of product Josh Deane said the next major communication update is planned for February 2027 and asked players not to expect a Destiny announcement at this year's The Game Awards. Any mention of a future beyond Destiny 2, including a possible Destiny 1 remaster, remains a tease, not a confirmed announcement.
