Retrofiction Games announced Dead of Darkness 2, an isometric 2D sequel to the survival horror Dead of Darkness. The game is confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, on Steam and GOG. Console versions will be published by eastasiasoft. No release date was given.
The sequel promises more detailed sprites, full isometric gameplay, and more animation frames. The story leaves the first cast and takes Jun Takehara to the Appalachians: she finds a wounded girl and, looking for help, reaches the town of Goldren Creek. The studio talks about 28 characters, each tied to the town’s larger mystery.
How the game presents itself
In certain sections the player can switch among up to three characters, use different positions to solve puzzles, and trade items through a shared box. Ammo and healing items are scarce. Healing items can be combined, weapons upgraded with parts, and inventory weight managed. The arsenal runs from knives and axes to submachine guns and flamethrowers, each with its own damage, effect, load, and speed.
Exploration runs through files, objects, and clues that open puzzles and hidden paths. The Steam page is already up, app 3947120, and Gematsu published the announcement on October 7, 2026 with the reveal trailer.
