Claude AI mod Oblivion Remastered boosts FPS by up to 43% without quality loss

The Claude AI mod Oblivion Remastered Performance Fix is the result of a player without professional experience who used Anthropic's Claude to optimize The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. With about 40 engine optimizations, the mod raises average FPS by up to 43% and drastically reduces stuttering, without altering the game's visual quality.

Published on GitHub and Nexus Mods by user LTSharpe, the project used Claude (Opus 5.5 via Claude Code) for reverse engineering, profiling and implementation. LTSharpe set the rules — never change the look —, made the decisions and tested every version over roughly two and a half weeks.

What happened?

Oblivion Remastered suffers from CPU bottlenecks and hitching even on strong hardware. LTSharpe, frustrated with low FPS and stuttering after a GPU upgrade, directed Claude AI to analyze and fix the code. The Claude AI mod Oblivion Remastered optimizes multithreading, memory allocation, world streaming and lighting, tasks that previously overloaded a single thread.

In the author's tests (Ryzen 7 5800X + Radeon RX 9070 XT, 4K with FSR Performance and Frame Generation): flight over Imperial City rose from 72 to 102 FPS (+41%), 1% lows from 33 to 45 and 50 ms hitches from 19.5 to 4.8. In Cheydinhal, from 64 to 91 FPS (+43%). The mod also improves support for AMD's ML Frame Generation on RX 9000 cards.

Why does this matter?

The Claude AI mod Oblivion Remastered shows that advanced language models already perform reverse engineering and optimization of complex engines (Unreal Engine 5 + original engine) under human direction, generating measurable open-source results. This lowers the barrier for performance mods and highlights AI's potential in high-level technical tasks. The creator makes clear that the work was directed and tested, not “AI slop”.

What changes in practice?

Players can download the free beta of the Claude AI mod Oblivion Remastered from GitHub or Nexus Mods. Gains depend on hardware and CPU or GPU limitations; initial tests were done mainly on one AMD machine. The mod preserves Nanite, Lumen and shadows, and includes crash fixes. As it is beta, back up your saves. The case reinforces the debate on AI's role in modding and game development.
