Beats x Pokémon: special Pill with Pikachu and Mimikyu arrives October 15

Beats by Dre, the Apple-owned brand, announced on Tuesday (October 13) a special collaboration with The Pokémon Company International. The result is the Pokémon x Beats Pill, a limited-edition version of the popular portable speaker that hits stores on October 15.

Design and details of the Pokémon edition

The speaker features Pikachu and Mimikyu on the grill. The front and back mix Pikachu’s signature electric yellow with a grayscale interpretation of the mysterious Mimikyu. For the first time Beats is including charms with a Pill: the package comes with a Poké Ball, the Beats “b” logo and lightning bolts inspired by Pikachu, plus interactive Pokémon-themed packaging.

Inside, the hardware remains the same as the current-generation Beats Pill: up to 24 hours of battery life, IP67 dust and water resistance, lossless audio over USB-C, reverse phone charging, one-touch pairing, Find My / Find My Device support and the ability to pair two speakers in Amplify or Stereo mode.

Price, availability and context

The Pokémon x Beats Pill costs $149.99 — the same price as regular versions. Sales begin on October 15 at 8 a.m. PDT. It will be available in the United States (Apple and Target), the United Kingdom (Apple and Argos) and China (Apple and Douyin). Apple’s website is a retailer in all three markets.

The collaboration is part of Pokémon’s 30th-anniversary celebrations and reinforces Beats’ strategy of releasing themed special editions. Beats CMO Chris Thorne said the partnership unites two brands rooted in culture, giving fans a new way to express their love of Pokémon through sound.
