Apple unveils HomeView: 7-inch smart display with Siri AI and facial recognition

What happened?

On Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Apple unveiled the Apple HomeView during its Welcome Home event, its first dedicated smart display for the home. The device features a 7-inch Liquid Retina display (1088x1088 resolution), A18 chip, 12 MP Center Stage camera, spatial audio system and Siri AI — the new conversational version of the company's assistant. HomeView recognizes up to six users by face, personalizing the interface, apps and content for each while keeping data private via Secure Exclaves and Private Cloud Compute.

It comes in two versions (tabletop and wall-mounted), both at $299, in colors including silver, starlight, rose and space gray. Pre-orders open today; availability from November 13. At the same event, Apple also launched the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K (A19 chip, far-field microphones for hands-free Siri AI, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, 128 GB) for $299, shipping November 13, and the HomePod mini 2.

Why is this important?

HomeView marks Apple's strong entry into the screen-based hub market, competing directly with Echo Show and Nest Hub. Integrated with Apple Home, Matter and Thread, it acts as a central smart home controller, allowing control of lights, thermostats, cameras (up to 9 simultaneous feeds) and locks by touch or voice. Siri AI brings broad knowledge, natural conversations and personal context (when paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone/iPad), elevating the home assistant experience.

For geek culture and Apple ecosystem users, this means a central point for entertainment (Apple Music, Podcasts, FaceTime, photos with depth effects), communication and automation, with a strong privacy focus — camera/microphone data isolated and processed locally or in private cloud.

What changes in practice?

Multi-user families get automatically personalized interfaces. In the kitchen or bedroom, HomeView becomes a sous-chef (recipes with hands-free timers), shared photo frame or camera dashboard. The updated Apple TV 4K allows voice control without the remote and surround with up to four HomePods. Initially available in countries including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and India.

Requirements: recent iPhone/iPad for full setup and personalization. Local prices vary (e.g. £299 in the UK). Apple also announced the Apple Home Collection (cameras, thermostats and lock with LG and Schneider Electric) for December/2027.
