Amazon Alexa Tablets: Fire ends and new Android tablets with Google Play arrive October 14

What happened?

Amazon announced on October 8, 2026 the Amazon Alexa Tablets line, which replaces the old Fire Tablets. The new devices run full Android with Google Play Store access and have Alexa+ integrated.

There are three models: Alexa Tablet 8 (from $229.99), Alexa Tablet 11 ($329.99) and Alexa Tablet 12 Pro ($499.99). All start shipping on October 14 in the US, Canada and Mexico.

Why does this matter?

After more than a decade of closed Fire OS with limited catalog, Amazon adopts official Android. This opens access to apps like YouTube, Gmail, Netflix and Google Docs natively, plus Amazon services.

The design is aluminum unibody, with high-resolution displays and MediaTek processors. The 12 Pro has Nanomatte anti-glare option and keyboard and pen accessories.

What changes in practice?

Existing Fire Tablet owners continue with support for four years after the last shipment. Production of new Fire ends soon. Alexa Tablets bring always-available Alexa+ for on-screen help and smart home.
