Ace Combat 8 on Steam is now the series' biggest launch on the platform. SteamDB figures cited by Eurogamer and IT Home show a peak of 52,694 concurrent players, recorded on Saturday, October 3, 2026, one day after the official release of Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve.
What happened?
The game from Bandai Namco Aces and Bandai Namco Entertainment reached the general public on October 2 after three days of early access, according to Eurogamer. The PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions were already available at the start of the month. The Ace Combat 8 on Steam figure does not include consoles, so the total audience should be larger.
For the franchise, the jump is clear. Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, from 2019, held the previous PC record at 13,758 concurrent players. Ace Combat: Assault Horizon peaked at 3,795, according to IT Home. Wings of Theve nearly quadrupled the series' best previous result on the platform.
What players are saying
Eurogamer reported a Very Positive Steam rating, with more than 5,755 reviews. IT Home described the reception as mostly positive: dogfights, mission variety, the campaign and the soundtrack are among the praise. The criticisms most cited by the Chinese outlet are optimization and frame rate.
Bandai Namco has not released official copy-sales numbers. The concurrent peak of Ace Combat 8 on Steam is a sign of a strong PC debut, not a sales total.
Why it matters
Ace Combat spent years as a console series. The seventh game opened the door on PC; the eighth shows that the aerial-combat audience has grown alongside Steam. For a genre often treated as a niche, more than 50,000 people online at once is a concrete milestone.
