Zelda Ocarina of Time remake developed by Nintendo EPD Production Group No. 3

The Zelda Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2 is developed internally by Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development (EPD) Production Group No. 3, the core Zelda team, the company confirmed.

The reveal came in Ask the Developer Vol. 24, published November 2, 2026, days before the November 5 launch. Eiji Aonuma and Hidemaro Fujibayashi serve as producers of the Zelda Ocarina of Time remake.

Who is in charge of the Zelda Ocarina of Time remake?

Director is HokWai Ng (his first directing role, with Tears of the Kingdom experience). Aya Shida is art director, Hiroki Taguchi program director, and Masato Ohashi handles music and sound.

The team decided that “the visuals may change, but the experience does not.” They rebuilt Hyrule with modern tech, inspired by puppet-show and practical effects style, while preserving the original structure.

Why another remake?

Aonuma explained that many current team members only know recent Zeldas like Breath of the Wild. Rebuilding Ocarina of Time helps convey the original game’s importance and generates insights for the series’ future, especially during The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary.

They tested and dropped extra warp points because players missed moments of discovery.
