Yona of the Dawn: Studio Pierrot Films Confirms Production of the Anime Sequel

The official account of the anime Yona of the Dawn (Akatsuki no Yona) announced today that the sequel will be produced by the studio Pierrot Films.

The anime sequel had been confirmed in December 2025, at the same time the manga by Mizuho Kusanagi reached its end after 16 years of serialization in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine. This is the first official confirmation of the responsible studio.

Context of the Yona of the Dawn sequel

The first season, produced by Studio Pierrot and directed by Kazuhiro Yoneda, aired between October 2014 and March 2015 with 24 episodes. It adapted only the beginning of Princess Yona’s journey. Three OVAs were also released between 2015 and 2016.

The manga surpassed 15 million copies in circulation. The sequel is expected to continue the story from where the first season left off, with Yona and her companions seeking to change the kingdom of Kouka.

Why the studio confirmation matters

After more than a decade of waiting, the confirmation of Pierrot Films gives a concrete signal that the sequel is underway. Fans now await more details such as premiere date, format, and cast.
