What happened?
Microsoft has announced the Xbox Nano Controller, its smallest controller to date, designed to fit in a pocket and suit players with smaller hands or anyone who wants portability. Measuring a little over 5 inches (about 12.7 cm) in length and weighing just 3.5 ounces (roughly 99 grams), the device retains all 18 standard inputs of a traditional Xbox controller.
The suggested price is $49.99. Pre-orders are already open and the launch begins in November across dozens of markets, including the United States, Brazil, Japan, and several European countries. In Brazil the reference price is R$379.
The controller features an internal rechargeable battery via USB-C (cable sold separately), Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth support, plus a programmable Action Button for shortcuts such as screenshots and gameplay capture.
Why does this matter?
The Xbox Nano Controller lowers the barrier to entry for gaming. It is lighter and more compact than most modern smartphones and costs less than the standard wireless controller. This makes it ideal for children, travel, cloud gaming on phones or TVs, and casual local multiplayer sessions such as Minecraft Dungeons II.
By including a rechargeable battery out of the box and native Bluetooth connectivity, Microsoft eliminates the need for AA batteries or extra accessories in many usage scenarios. The design prioritizes practicality without sacrificing the familiar layout of buttons, sticks, and triggers.
What changes in practice?
Players now have an official pocket-sized controller option that works natively on Xbox Series consoles, Xbox One, Windows PCs, Android, iOS, and select Smart TVs. Xbox Wireless compatibility allows use without adapters on consoles, while Bluetooth extends reach to mobile devices.
