The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2 premieres on October 7, 2026, on Japanese television. The original title is Tantei wa Mou, Shindeiru. Crunchyroll confirmed that The Detective Is Already Dead also begins streaming on the service the same day. The first season, 12 episodes, ended on September 19, 2021.
The date arrived with the third trailer, published in early September. Studio ENGI returns, with Manabu Kurihara directing. Series composition is by Deko Akao, character designs by Yosuke Ito and music by 40mP and Yuyu. The original light novels are by nigozyu, with art by Umibouzu.
New cast and songs
Akari Komiyama joins as Mia Whitlock, described as a Tuner in the Priestess role. Nobuhiko Okamoto plays Scarlet, another Tuner identified as the Vampire. The main season 1 cast of The Detective Is Already Dead remains Saki Miyashita (Siesta), Ayana Taketatsu (Nagisa Natsunagi), Arata Nagai (Kimihiko Kimizuka) and Kanon Takao (Yui Saikawa).
The opening is Kono Shinzou ni Hanataba wo (A Bouquet for This Heart), written, composed and arranged by 40mP and performed by Kokorone. The ending is Hakuchumu (Daydream), also by 40mP, with vocals by Kagura Nana. Both tracks appear in the trailer covered by Crunchyroll and Anime Corner.
Why the premiere matters
The premise, as summarized by Crunchyroll, follows Kimihiko after he stops a hijacking alongside detective Siesta. The globe-trotting investigations change when Siesta dies — hence the title The Detective Is Already Dead. Season 2 arrives five years after the anime debut, a mark the official account noted with an anniversary visual in late September.
For viewers who only saw the first run on Crunchyroll, the practical point is continuity on the same service starting today, with no studio change. The cited notes do not confirm how many episodes season 2 will have. Light novel volume 14 is dated October 23, according to the official account bio cited by Crunchyroll.
