Valve has published SteamOS 3.9.5 to the stable channel, making the update available to all Steam Deck, Steam Machine and other compatible system users. The version marks the first stable release of the 3.9 branch, which had been in testing since late August.
What changed
Key highlights include an updated Arch Linux base, Desktop Mode with KDE Plasma 6.7.3 (previously 6.4.3) and a kernel rebased on Linux 7.2. Idle power consumption on the Steam Deck has been improved when no audio is playing, and support for the Steam Frame wireless adapter has been strengthened.
The Wi-Fi backend now defaults to wpa_supplicant, with fast reconnect on resume from sleep. There is preliminary hibernation support (not yet exposed in the Game Mode UI and not enabled on Steam Deck due to a driver bug).
Relevant fixes
- Remote Play on Steam Machine when booting with no external display.
- Frame limiter on VR titles when streaming from Steam Machine to Steam Frame.
- Crash when launching Forza Horizon 6 on Legion Go 2.
- Issues running Elden Ring and Dark Souls III on recent Intel Panther Lake CPUs.
- Multiple stability, audio, suspend and security fixes, including revocation of compromised certificates.
Official notes are available on the Steam Deck news page. The update can be applied normally through system settings.
