Electronic Arts confirmed in an internal memo that DICE (responsible for Battlefield and previous Battlefront games) and Respawn Entertainment (Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi) are collaborating on a future shooter project. According to multiple sources cited by Variety, this project would be the long-awaited Star Wars Battlefront 3.
What happened?
Amid EA's restructuring, which includes layoffs and the closure of BioWare, the company stated it would bring Respawn and DICE together for a project that helps expand its shooter portfolio. Variety reported, based on multiple sources, that it is Star Wars Battlefront 3. EA has not officially confirmed the title.
This follows earlier rumors that Lucasfilm was seeking a development partner for a new Battlefront, with DICE and Bungie among the names mentioned.
Why it matters
The last game in the modern series, Star Wars Battlefront II (2017), overcame loot box controversies and maintained popularity, with recent player peaks on Steam. A third title would combine DICE's large-scale battle experience with Respawn's multiplayer and Star Wars expertise.
