PUBG Netflix series: Donald Glover to direct and star in live-action adaptation

The PUBG Netflix series is officially confirmed. Krafton and Netflix have announced a live-action adaptation of PUBG: Battlegrounds. Donald Glover, known for Atlanta and Community, will write, direct, executive produce and star in the project. His brother Stephen Glover is also involved as a writer and executive producer.

What we know about the PUBG Netflix series

The announcement was made around October 29-30, 2026. In addition to the Glovers, executive producers include Michael Schaefer (Neon TV), Fam Udeorji (Gilga) and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee from LV3H, Krafton’s entertainment arm. LV3H is involved in the development and production of the series, expanding the PUBG IP into audiovisual content.

There is still no release date, detailed synopsis or additional cast confirmed. Krafton plans to share more details later.

Why the PUBG Netflix series matters

PUBG popularized the battle royale genre and holds several Guinness records. The adaptation arrives at a time when Netflix is heavily investing in game IPs, alongside projects like Assassin’s Creed and others. Donald Glover brings creative credibility — he has already worked with games by voicing Yoshi in a Super Mario film and collaborating on Far Cry trailers.

Krafton has been seeking to expand the PUBG universe beyond games. Recently, the company ended development of the extraction shooter spin-off PUBG: Black Budget, showing that focus is shifting to other fronts, including entertainment.

Context

PUBG: Battlegrounds, launched in 2017, remains popular, with high concurrent player peaks on Steam. The live-action series represents another step by the games industry toward premium streaming adaptations.
