Ratatan 1.0 launches today: Patapon spiritual successor arrives complete on PC, PS5, Switch 2 and Xbox

What happened?

Ratatan 1.0, the spiritual successor to Patapon created by Hiroyuki Kotani, reached its complete version on October 15, 2026. The rhythm roguelike action game launches simultaneously on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S.

Developed by Ratata Arts and TVT in partnership with publisher Game Source Entertainment, Ratatan spent nearly a year in Steam Early Access (since September 2025). The final version adds Episodes 3 and 4, the final world, the ultimate boss and brings together all the Dark Ratatans.

The game lets you command an army of Cobuns to the beat of the music in side-scrolling stages, with online co-op support for up to 4 players and over 100 characters in intense battles.

Why does this matter?

Patapon is a cult classic from the PSP known for its rhythm-based troop command mechanics. Ratatan modernizes the formula with roguelike elements, multiplayer and a vibrant visual presentation, bringing the essence of the original to current platforms.

The simultaneous launch on PC and next-gen consoles (including Switch 2) expands the indie title’s reach. Completing the story and adding content rewards those who followed Early Access and attracts new players waiting for the full version.

What changes in practice?

Steam Early Access players receive the free update to version 1.0 while keeping their progress. New players can buy the complete game on the supported platforms. The standard edition price is around $34.99, with Deluxe options available.
