Qualcomm 6G terminal prototype shown publicly for first time at CIIE

Qualcomm’s 6G terminal prototype was publicly presented for the first time at the 9th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai on Thursday, November 5, 2026. The device is the world’s first to follow the latest 3GPP definition for 6G and has moved from the lab to a physical display at a major global event.

What happened?

The Qualcomm 6G terminal prototype is part of an end-to-end 6G system and has been used in interoperability tests with Chinese partners including China Mobile and ZTE. In September, Qualcomm and China Mobile completed the world’s first docking test on the U6G band under the latest 3GPP specifications. The equipment was selected as one of 25 “hard tech” exhibits and received the “global premiere” label.

Why does this matter?

6G standardization is still underway, with the first 3GPP release expected around 2029. Showing a working Qualcomm 6G terminal prototype at a large event signals that the industry is moving from pure research toward system-level validation. Technologies such as Giga-MIMO, probabilistic shaping and sub-band full duplex are being tested to improve spectral efficiency and throughput.

What changes in practice?

For now it remains a test prototype, not a commercial product. CIIE visitors can see the real hardware and understand the path toward higher-capacity networks with native AI and sensing. Qualcomm is also showing other AI devices, PCs, smart glasses and automotive solutions at the same booth.
