Phantom Blade Zero sells 500,000 copies on Steam before launch and generates $24 million

The Chinese action RPG Phantom Blade Zero, developed by S-GAME, has already sold around 500,000 copies on Steam alone through pre-orders, generating an estimated gross revenue of $24 million, with about a week still left until the official launch on October 29, 2026.

What happened?

According to estimates from Alinea Analytics, shared by analyst Rhys Elliott, the game is already outperforming titles like Gears of War: E-Day and Control Resonant on Steam in the same pre-launch period. China is currently the top market, and the title has accumulated about 2.5 million wishlists on the platform.

Phantom Blade Zero is a wuxia-style action RPG with "Kungfupunk" elements, in which the player controls Soul, a warrior with only 66 days to live. The game features combat consultancy from martial arts actor Donnie Yen and launches digitally for PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) and PlayStation 5.

Why does this matter?

These numbers reinforce the strength of the Chinese games industry in the global market, following successes like Black Myth: Wukong. Audience overlap with games like Elden Ring (38%) and Sekiro (28%) indicates potential for international appeal beyond the domestic market.

The digital launch takes place on October 29, 2026, with physical editions for PS5 expected in 2027. The data are third-party estimates and do not represent official numbers from the developer or Valve.
