What happened?
The free Once Human Isles of Abyss expansion arrived today, October 22, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and simultaneously on PC, Xbox Series X|S and mobile. Developed by Starry Studio, it is the biggest content update for the survival game since launch and turns gameplay into a maritime experience.
The expansion adds five oceanic regions, customizable ships that function as mobile bases, underwater exploration and a new antagonist called The Sunken Lord, a conscious ocean.
Why does this matter?
Once Human gained popularity as an open-world survival title with building and anomaly-fighting elements. The simultaneous multi-platform launch of Isles of Abyss, including PS5 DualSense features, expands reach and offers a fresh experience at no extra cost.
The living ocean concept and dual land-sea progression create a new gameplay loop that encourages exploration, group fleet building and naval combat.
What changes in practice?
Players start on a starter island and explore four other oceanic regions in any order. Ships can be built and upgraded from simple rafts into floating fortresses with cannons, workshops and artillery platforms. Island resources fuel naval tech, while the deep sea provides special materials.
- Five oceanic regions with dynamic threats (fogs, black tides, temporal fire rain)
- Free building of mobile Sea Fortresses
- Underwater exploration layer with ruins and hunting
- Final boss The Sunken Lord in an 8-player dungeon
- On PS5: DualSense haptic feedback for waves, storms and impacts, adaptive triggers for cannons
The expansion is 100% free and includes full cross-play. Official details are on the PlayStation Blog.
