What happened?
NVIDIA announced a major update for NVIDIA DLSS 5. The 3D-Guided Neural Rendering model is now twice as fast, with a 24% smaller footprint (roughly 118 million parameters) and 20% less VRAM usage at 4K. GPU overhead is halved compared to the September version while maintaining comparable visual quality in NVIDIA DLSS 5.
The new model debuts in NBA 2K27 on October 16, boosting frame rates by up to 1.4x on RTX 50 Series GPUs, RTX Spark laptops and GeForce NOW. On November 5, NVIDIA DLSS 5 arrives in Hogwarts Legacy, and later in Where Winds Meet. On October 23, the technology also comes to RTX Remix.
Why is this important?
NVIDIA DLSS 5 uses AI to generate realistic lighting and material details from the game engine’s rendered frame, rather than just reconstructing existing data. The performance improvement makes the technology more accessible on mid-range and high-end RTX 50 series cards.
NVIDIA also released a new Performance Mode (Preset C) for Frame Generation in beta, which can be up to 35% faster on an RTX 5060, with minor quality trade-offs.
What changes in practice?
Hogwarts Legacy players will get more realistic lighting and materials starting November 5 with NVIDIA DLSS 5, with detailed artistic controls to maintain the game’s style. Modders will be able to use DLSS 5 in RTX Remix to remaster classics with enhanced path tracing.
The faster model will be the default in future games with NVIDIA DLSS 5. Source: NVIDIA GeForce.
