NVIDIA Advanced Shader Delivery Arrives in Driver 621.01 and Cuts Shader Stutter on PC

NVIDIA Advanced Shader Delivery arrives today in the GeForce Game Ready 621.01 WHQL driver, adding support for the Microsoft technology on RTX and RTX Spark GPUs. Announced earlier in October, the solution downloads already-compiled shaders from the cloud for the player’s specific hardware on Windows 11, drastically reducing shader compilation hitches and initial game “burn” times.

According to Microsoft and reported by Digital Foundry, Advanced Shader Delivery can cut shader compilation time by up to 95%. In heavy titles this means going from tens of minutes to just a few seconds. Games with initial support include Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

How it works in practice

The system is transparent for most users: the game or Xbox PC app downloads the precompiled shaders matching the GPU, driver and Windows combination. Developers must implement support. The driver also brings DLSS 4.5 improvements for Cyberpunk 2077, Phantom Blade Zero and other titles.

To use Advanced Shader Delivery you need Windows 11 24H2 or later and the 621.01 driver. NVIDIA recommends updating via the Nvidia App or direct download. The technology does not eliminate traversal stutter (asset loading when crossing map boundaries), but it complements NVIDIA’s own Automatic Shader Compilation.

Why it matters

Shader compilation stutter is a chronic problem in modern PC gaming, especially after driver updates or in games with many effects. With Advanced Shader Delivery now available on AMD, Qualcomm and NVIDIA (Intel arriving soon), the first-launch experience and fluidity in supported games improve significantly for a larger player base.
