Null Meta anime: Kokamumo's manga gets TV adaptation in 2027 directed by Kai Ikarashi

The Null Meta anime has been officially announced for 2027. The 4-koma manga Null Meta (Nurumeta) by Kokamumo will receive a television anime adaptation. The official announcement was made on October 18 by Aniplex, with direction by Kai Ikarashi, known for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.

What happened?

Production will be handled by studio Soigne, with script by Tatsuya Takahashi and character design by Shin Ogasawara. Aniplex had teased a mysterious announcement that turned out to be this adaptation. The manga has been serialized in Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara MAX since December 2019, after starting as a webmanga on Pixiv in 2018.

The story follows the daily lives of four high school girls: Kurumi, a cute "dumb" android; Chiaki, her guardian with a few screws loose; Sakina, calm and easily amused; and Shiyuki, the only "sane" one in the group. It is described as an alternative slice-of-life, with absurd 2000s gag humor, mixing surreal comedy, school life, and robots.

Why it matters

Ikarashi, who worked on high-profile projects like Edgerunners, takes on a lighter and more experimental work. Author Kokamumo thanked readers and expressed excitement about seeing the characters' clumsy, comical, and endearing daily lives. The director said he arrived at the project with the feeling that something was about to begin and will do his best to deliver an enjoyable anime.

The adaptation expands the reach of a niche manga in the Kirara genre, known for its distinct visual style and humor. More details on exact date, cast, and trailer should emerge in the coming months. Sources: Aniplex, Anime News Network, and X/Twitter coverage from official and news accounts.
