Nintendo released its financial report for the first half of the fiscal year, covering April to September 2026, on 5 November 2026, and the Nintendo Switch 2 has now sold 26.35 million units worldwide. The original Nintendo Switch has reached 157.20 million units.
Related: Geekiki had already reported the Switch 2 passing 26.35 million units in our article on PS5 and Switch 2 sales; this article focuses on Nintendo's full financial results.
The contrast in the report is the pace: Nintendo Switch 2 hardware sales fell during the period, but the company's profit rose. In the second fiscal quarter, from July to September, 2.67 million consoles were sold, and the half-year total was 6.49 million — a 37.4% decline compared with the same period last year.
The half-year figures
- Net sales: ¥966.0 billion, down 12.1% year on year;
- Operating profit: ¥216.5 billion, up 49.1%;
- Ordinary profit: ¥300.6 billion, up 27.4%;
- Net profit: ¥220.9 billion, up 11.0%;
- Switch 2 software: 73.21 million units in total and 24.49 million in the half year, up 18.8%;
- Switch software: 1,593.87 million units in total and 65.73 million in the half year.
According to Nintendo, the drop in revenue reflects lower hardware volume, while profit grew thanks to software's larger share of sales and a first-quarter refund of US IEEPA tariffs previously recorded as a cost.
Software carries the result
Among the half year's Nintendo Switch 2 releases, Star Fox sold 1.17 million units, Splatoon Raiders sold 2.42 million and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave sold 1.34 million. Mario Kart World and Pokémon Pokopia, released in the previous fiscal year, also continued to sell well, according to the company.
On the original Switch, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream reached 8.81 million units and Rhythm Heaven Groove reached 2.89 million. Digital sales totalled ¥249.6 billion, up 60.5% year on year, driven by downloadable versions of packaged software. Mobile and intellectual property-related business brought in ¥62.7 billion, up 87.9%, with strong audience engagement around the Super Mario Galaxy movie.
What comes next
Nintendo kept its forecast for the fiscal year ending in March 2027 unchanged, including the target of 16.5 million Nintendo Switch 2 units. The company launched a special console edition for the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda in October, released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in November and is preparing Metroid Ravenous for January.
The report comes days after Nintendo said it does not plan another Switch 2 price increase and has enough memory supply for production, a topic Geekiki already covered in our article on the console's price. The previous increase in the United States raised the suggested retail price from $449.99 to $499.99 on 1 September 2026.
Also worth following is the launch of Ocarina of Time on Switch 2, covered in Geekiki's article on the remake.
