Microsoft announces Xbox Nano Controller: the smallest controller ever at $49.99

Microsoft introduced the Xbox Nano Controller on Wednesday (14), the smallest controller the company has ever released. Measuring a little over 5 inches (12.7 cm) in length and weighing just 3.5 ounces (99 g), it is lighter and shorter than most modern smartphones and costs $49.99.

What is the Xbox Nano Controller?

The Nano keeps all 18 standard gameplay inputs found on traditional Xbox controllers, including analog sticks, ABXY buttons, triggers and bumpers. It features a USB-C rechargeable battery, Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth support, and a programmable Action Button for shortcuts such as screenshots or gameplay capture.

According to Xbox, the compact design is ideal for younger players, people with smaller hands, or anyone looking for portability to play anywhere — on console, PC, mobile or compatible smart TVs.

Price and availability

Pre-orders are already open at $49.99. The launch begins in November across multiple markets, including Brazil, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Germany, France, Spain and others. Promotional bundles with Samsung TVs and Meta Quest were also announced, including months of Game Pass Ultimate for new subscribers.

Why it matters

With console hardware prices rising, Microsoft is offering an affordable and portable alternative. The Nano does not replace the Elite or standard controller, but it expands access to the Xbox ecosystem, especially for cloud gaming and casual or beginner players.
