HorrorVale: Deadluxe Edition hits consoles this Halloween

HorrorVale: Deadluxe Edition has arrived on consoles this Friday, October 31, just in time for Halloween. The horror-comedy RPG from BatWorks Software, published by Electric Airship, is available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

In the story, Alice's neighbours are zombies, reanimated monsters deliver the mail and ghosts hide in the bathroom. The protagonist journeys through the underworld to save her zombie dog, Scruffy, from strange monsters that have invaded the once-peaceful town of HorrorVale.

What the Deadluxe Edition brings

The console edition revises the hand-made art exclusively for consoles and adds brand-new battles and quality-of-life enhancements exclusive to this version. The content includes a four-act story, around 25 hours of main quest and up to 60 hours for full completion, with more than 500 enemies with their own mechanics, more than 30 recruitable companions and 60 side quests with their own stories.

Combat is turn-based with a spooky twist, and the shared XP system lets players experiment with different characters without fear of losing progress. The original soundtrack has 170 tracks, including contributions from Grant Kirkhope, known for Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country.

From a 2016 project to console stores

The project began in 2016, when two friends — an artist and a musician — struck a deal: if the artist pursued his dream of developing an RPG, the musician would provide the soundtrack. Eight years and thousands of hours later, the Deadluxe Edition was complete. The original game launched for PC via Steam on October 1, 2024, where it holds a “Very Positive” rating.

On the Xbox and PlayStation stores, the launch price shown is US$ 17.99. The game is single-player and carries an ESRB Teen rating for fantasy violence, mild blood and use of alcohol and tobacco.
